![]() Runewords are special sequences of Runes, small items with special properties that can be inserted into Normal quality Socketed Chest Armor, Helms, Shields, and Weapons. There are other nuances to consider when making runewords, but by and large, that's the jist of it.Welcome to Wowhead's guide to the Top Leveling Runewords in Diablo II: Resurrected Patch 2.7 & Ladder Season 4. When it comes to physical runewords, it becomes a different matter entirely, like why for certain runewords you want to use in a Berzerker Axe, while another you want it in a Phase Blade, so on and so forth. One exception that may look odd at a first glance is Spirit Monarch (Spirit Runeword made in a Monarch base), as that runeword is made in a very high Strength requirement shield: Monarch is the shield with the lowest Strength requirement that can have 4 sockets, not counting Paladin shields (all paladin shields can have a maximum of 4 sockets, necromancer shrunken heads can never have 4 sockets). Generally, for caster type runewords, you'd want the base item to have as low of a stat requirement as possible, that's why Hearts of the Oak is nearly always made in a Flail, almost never in a Knout or Scourge (exceptional and elite versions of flail), because the weapon damage stat on them is almost never used, but you still have to meet the stat/level requirements of higher tier base items. ![]() ![]() ![]() Stealth and Lore are both low level runewords that's mostly a stopover runeword until you find something better, so making them in the most flexible base is more beneficial than the small amounts of defence a higher base would give you, especially since neither of those runewords give you a bonus to defence of the item, therefore the defence difference matter even less. ![]() It ultimately depends on the runewords themselves. ![]()
